Current state and future

Many of you wonder why there haven't been updates since late February - the reason is that I've joined a new startup company where immediately I have started to work on heavy development relevant to my expertise.

I'm glad for this new job, considering that 99% of the installed instances of Winulator were pirated and unfortunately it is seems that it is not possible for me to use Winulator as a sole source of income.

Because of this new job, currently I am able to allocate very little time to Winulator - it is likely that support for new games (and fixes for the older ones) will be delayed considerably. I would still post updates on any changes regarding Winulator.

Thanks for your support.

  1. We all really want to see Age of Empires for Android! Please consider other ways of keeping this project running, i.e. Kickstarter or asking for help.

  3. Sell the non Beta version for 50% less, 7.99 is to much at its 2 game state. At 3.99 or even as low as .99 you'll have money rolling in.!

Look don't work! its for losers. I work.... it sucks.

I love StarCraft on the Beta version but to pay 7.99 to take the BETA water mark away is kinda steep.

    anyways,
Grate work I hope the best for ya, AND KEEP THIS PROJECT ALIVE!!!
    Its really good.

    Thanks.

  4. Such a shame, had high hopes for this it could of been the best app ever. Should make it open source.

  5. Well this sucks, ive been looking forward to starcraft since febuary and now it looks like im going to have to figure out how to do it myself

  6. You are so close that would make revalyutsiyu intergaratsii windows app on android and am going to retreat? money is nothing ...

  7. Congratulations on the new job!

Hell, I don't think any dev ever makes a living out of one app. The price does explain pirating probably, for me the main culprit is having to use google wallet to buy apps... Maybe a paypal donation system would have been more successful?

Anyway, it's a great piece of software and also one of its kind, I will still be following it as long as possible.

Also, any way to make it open source maybe? I'm sure many folks would be interested in pushing it forward, as it is it risks falling into oblivion, which would suck...

  8. Hello, sorry for my english. I have found Your winulator just yesterday and buy it 10minutes later. X86 windows games under android? Too nice to be true... but it is so, those Starcraft are really workin! (With some graphics glitches - matter of patch). And now Iam reading, that project is slowing down... :-( or closing down? :'( is it matter of money? I paid You 150,- czech crowns - really funny money for potential of Your project. Start some kickstarter with few games, I will be first who gladly pay 20x more. Your project is young, give it chance... (btw: I could not imagine how much time (how big budget) You need for preparing one program/game, guess it is individual, but maybe it is also chance say - I need so much money for Diablo 2, give them together...)

  9. Congrats on the new job. I know it must be frustrating to put so much work into something to have it pirated. I'd gladly buy the registered version, but the beta version can't find StarCraft! I went thru all the steps, I downloaded Brood War from Blizzard (i still have my CD and CD code), I installed the patch, added the profile file to the Starcraft Directory and copied it all to my Asus Transformer. I copied it to internal memory as well as the SD card, and Winulator can't find it, even when I do the manual search. 0 files/game found everytime. I've tried everything I could think of but no luck!! I've even checked out other forums and saw a youtube video about how to do it. No luck. I'm real disappointed.

  10. If you can get starcraft fully functional, I'll buy the full version in support. This app is a great concept, would love to see it hit its full potential.

  11. Yep, me too. Diablo 1,2 support would be really great.
10$ is a bit much though. on gog, most game I want are at that price.

I already have a laptop running those games. Tablet would have been excellent.

  13. Dan why dont you start a Kickstarter to get the starcraft glitches fixed and fix the multiplayer support (I can start a game on winulator beta but it drops after a minute or two). I would gladly contribute 10 or 20$. If you were willing to contribute your spare time how much would you need to fix the glitches and multiplayer on starcraft?

  14. Hell why not other people such as those possibliy in this forum get a little oriented with your software and continue to create profile and updates for game support for you! I wouldn't mind helping you with this and i don't care much about getting paid. I WOULD DO THIS FOR THE FACT THAT YOU CREATED A GENIOUS AND UNIQUE PROGRAM FOR THE ANDROID THAT FURTHER PLACES THIS OS OVER OTHERS AND IT WOULD BE A COMPLETE SHAME AND DISGRACE TO STOP IT'S PROGRESS NOW...

  15. This is really a shame.
This would have been a wonderful product, if it would be finished.
But the reality is, that it's hard to make living only on one Android app.
And when you have a full-time job, you usually don't have much time to spend on side-projects (I know this, because I'm a developer too).

If you don't have time to continue active development, you should consider open-sourcing the project, so that other developers can work on it. It's better than to let the project die.

  16. just barely discovered this, and to be honest i most likely would have pirated it, but things are changing in my life and now i would gladly pay. Devote your time to your new job and station, happy for ya. i'm wasting my time doing ridiculous crap instead of putting my mind to work (i'm an out of work programmer). Hope the best for you.

  17. When you have the time. Would it be possible to run kings quest MoE or lands of lore? Congrats on the new job!

  18. Hello Dan,
I'm sad for you about these people pirating your app and I'm happy for your new job.

But as others said, get a kickstarter project for your project please ! I'm pretty sure most of us want to contribute to your project and going to kickstarter gives a warranty to be paid for what you will done.

And it should be awesome if you can reply to our comments because we don't know if you still reading it :)

If you don't know what is kickstarter just look at http://www.kickstarter.com/

You can here create your project, define an amount, define a time to get this amount and since you reach the goal you can start your project. If you reach your goal before the time ends, you can still receiving money for the time remaining.

Sorry for my english, I didn't have tryed yet your app. because I'll get an galaxy note today but since I get it I'll try your app.

    1. Hey ganon,

I read all the comments, and I receive many similar responses by private email. The responses are very encouraging, and I reply to some of them.

There is much for me to still learn from the hobby-turned-business-turned-hobby experience.

Originally I intended to support at least about 10 popular games (without changing the price on the app), but the job opportunity seems much more worthwhile for the time being.

It is sad for me too, but I have other considerations, risk-wise.

When it would be suitable for me, I would want to get back to working full time on Winulator. I am aware of kickstarter and it certainly something I would consider when I get back.

      Thanks for your feedback.

  19. Great just bought the full version, because i thought you could use the support. But you dropped it. Would be nice if you take the full version off the playstore. 8 euro's is a bit much for just caesar III, altough it is an old favorite of mine (without keys on my s4 though :S)

  20. while 10 games would be nice, unless they are 10 games i like the price is still too steep, id pay $0.99 for 10 games if at least 2 of them i liked, but i would much rather be able to convert and play any game i want

  21. Hey man greate job with winulator :-) truely a masterpiece above everyhing else! Congrats on the job too hope it works out fine. Your project is amazing the only problem is that too few know of it i myself found it by a chance. The potential of this program is so huge it could make companies like blizzard buy it cuse its more then a gold mine and ill tell u why... ressurecting old projects for new devices jist beace very cheap for them and the croude loves is as ve read the coments pple are willing to spend for that :-) anyways keep up the good work and gl on it :-).

  22. Still waiting as a paid supporter. I understand you have a new job but shit man. I almost want my 10+ dollars back.

  23. Honestly making this project opensource would be best for everyone. Its time to get something going for people who wasted money on this. Its getting old having crashes every 5 mins on 4.3.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I just paid for the full version even though it's pretty clear we're not getting anymore updates. Starcraft Brood War and Caesar 3 run near perfectly. Sure, Starcraft crashes every once in a while, but I've played it for 3 hours and it only crashed once. That's not overly too bad. $8 is a good price to play these two amazing games on a mobile device, and if (somehow) we get updates in a future, I'm ready for them :)

  25. I paid for it and there hasn't been support in forever...Hope this changes because this could be one of the most epic programs ever coded...

  26. Hello, thank You so much for the last "invisible unit" patch - Starcraft and Dan RULEZ! :o)
Iam really happy that You didnot left this perfect project.
    Best Regards,

  27. We need to campaign to the pirates to make them understand that by paying for the app and supporting Dan he will be able to add support for more games. Obviously the pirates understand the concept of money as they are activeley seeking free stuff, if they understand that they are robbing the entire android community of the chance of supporting some of the best games ever made perhaps these pirates will donate. I remember a similar thing with FPSE. There was a lot of support from the community against piracy of FPSE as people wanted the development to continue etc. Perhaps we can get a similar thing going here.

  28. If you are not going to (or can't find the time) to develop this, maybe you should consider going open source (while retaining intellectual property of course). It would be a shame see this die as it has great potential even beyond that of gameing.

  30. Is there going to be any future for this program... I downloaded and installed everything and it just crashes right when I start starcraft. thanks

  32. Can you upload winulator to the Windows Store? please that would be amazing if you did :)

  33. Dude this app is amazing. Couldn't get very far in StarCraft but I think it's my copy of StarCraft. Ceasar 3 works great. I love it. I understand having a full time job. I have that,a wife, and two kids. But if you need any help let me know. I'll do what I can.

  34. Hello Dan, I write to you to do a request to you: please, it updates Winulator in order that it could modify the size of the screen in the menu of options. In Drastic Ds they could have done it and they work with TWO screens, tactile both. That can seem to be impossible to play this way, but increasingly people have consoles Android like Nvidia Shield, JXD or Wikipad. In them physical controls can be used as if they were tactile and for it the arrows of movement and Winulator's mouse they might put in small margins of the screen. Please Dan, try it. Thank you very much.

  35. I love this app been playing g starcraft since I was a kid! But the only problem I have is the crashes every 5-15 minutes it's annoying...I could not get very far I was going to buy the full version but I am second guessing it because if the beta and the full version are the same there would be no point and I would just be wasting my money I don't have alot of it to go and 8$ is kind of alot of money but I would gladly pay this much money for starcraft working fully. If the crashes get fixed I would gladly buy the full version with no hesitation!
